The NET Charter High School serves students who have dropped out of or been expelled from high school or who have struggled academically or behaviorally in traditional settings. The school’s name stands for: meeting Needs, raising Expectations, Training for life. Students at The NET earn a high school diploma and participate in internships with area employers in various fields. Our students leave school with the skills, confidence and experience to succeed in the career and education path of their choice.

EQA exists to serve the young people of New Orleans most vulnerable to dropping out of school. It has three high school campuses, The NET: Central City, The NET: Gentilly, and The NET: East. EQA also serves middle school students through The Bridge Middle School, a therapeutic program for 7th and 8th graders, the NEST an early childcare center, and a myriad of wrap-around supports. All EQA programs are built on the belief that alternative schools should not punish or "fix" young people; they should be vibrant, flexible, and restorative environments that support students in being their best selves.
Position Summary
The NET: East seeks a Real World Learning Coordinator to manage its Real World Learning (RWL) program. This program involves all aspects of bringing “the world” into the school and bringing students out into “the world” with its primary focus being on running a robust internship program. NET students need the opportunity to be immersed in a variety of professional settings and to access professional mentors. These experiences and networks help students develop their future plans, gain valuable soft skills, and connect their academic learning with the world around them.
The RWL Coordinator's primary responsibilities are to:
- Direct the Internship Program:
Each year students participate in approximately 100 professional internships across the city. The RWL Coordinator is responsible for making this possible.
- Bring the World Into the School:
Every class at The NET strives to connect students’ assignments and learning to real-world projects, and real-world problems in the spirit of “Beautiful, Meaningful Work.” The RWL Coordinator is responsible for helping teachers create these connections
- Bring Students Out to the World:
EQA believes that much of the best learning happens outside of the classroom and is committed to providing students multiple opportunities to study and engage outside of the high school building. In addition to internships, this takes the form of dual enrollment, CTE programming, excursions and more. The RWL Coordinator is responsible for building and managing the partnerships that make this happen.
Position Requirements:
Education & Experience
- 5+ years in education, business, marketing and/or workforce development, preferably in the New Orleans area
- Experience working with risk students or adults with a demonstrated record of improving their career opportunities and success
- 2+ years in a leadership, coaching or training position
- Experience in program development, monitoring & evaluation
- BA, MA preferred

Details
- Schedule: All full time NET positions are year-round; all positions are scheduled on campus for a 40 hour week. As a Coordinator level position, this is the minimum hours expected, all school leaders work additional hours for planning and development. The RWL Coordinator must be available to work nights and weekends as needed for student and mentor recruiting and development.
- Transportation: The RWL Coordinator position requires personal transportation to off campus meetings, events, interviews etc.
- Salary: $50,000-$65,000. Initial salary is set based on years of experience and degrees. Future salary increases and bonuses are based on performance and responsibilities.

Detailed Responsibilities
RWL and Advisory Development
- Mission & vision clarification and stakeholder development
- Systems review and improvement
- Explicit internship and mentor connections to advisory
- Coaching for high quality projects and exhibitions
- Teaching or co-teaching one PBL advisory as needed
Career preparation curriculum development and delivery
- Research best practices to develop a rigorous and effective career preparation curriculum including pre-internship preparation and internship coaching.
- Teach curriculum through Advisories, Career Courses, Workshops and other venues
- Partner with Next Steps and other internal and external programs to insure continuum of career preparation and development for seniors and alumni
Mentor recruitment, selection and development
- Recruit and select new mentors for the program
- Design and deliver training to and appreciation for new and returning mentors
- Provide support, including conducting site visits, throughout internship
- Evaluate mentors and mentor experience
- Market internship program throughout the neighborhood and city, including but not limited to, attending community meetings and boards
- Develop relationships with corporations and organizations
- Build directory of diverse internships to meet all students’ interests and needs
Student placement and progress monitoring in internships
- Work with faculty and students to identify students’ interests and to place students in engaging and rigorous internships
- Coach and monitor students during internships including site visits, weekly check-ins, bi-weekly mentor communication and troubleshooting
- Work with school faculty to develop academic connections/projects/opportunities for students in internships
- Develop and oversee performance management/evaluation system for students
Program development and continual program and personal professional growth
- Develop & improve internship program policies, procedures and structures
- Set goals for student and program performance and analyze data to continually improve career and internship program
- Actively reflect on your own work and monitor progress toward goals
- Productively seek, give, and use feedback
- Positively contribute to the school’s collegial community
- Participate in all scheduled professional development activities and seek out additional opportunities
School staff/Faculty responsibilities
- All NET staff participate in school related duties and functions such as, but not limited to: duty, test proctoring, event planning
- Involve yourself in the continual development and improvement of the school’s curriculum, culture, and program
