Educators for Quality Alternatives (EQA)

EQA is a New Orleans nonprofit with the mission of providing struggling students with the skills, confidence and experiences to succeed in the education and career paths of their choice. The organization runs three alternative high schools: The NET:Central City, The NET:Gentilly, and The NET:East for students who have dropped out of, been expelled from, or who have otherwise struggled in a traditional school setting.  EQA also operates a virtual program for 12th grade students who qualify, a HiSET program in partnership with YEP, The NEST childcare center, and a therapeutic middle school program, The Bridge.  EQA programs are built on the belief that alternative schools should not punish or “fix” young people; they should be vibrant, flexible, and restorative environments that support students in being their best selves.

The Youth Empowerment Project (YEP)
YEP is a community-based organization that engages young people in New Orleans who live in chronic poverty, are out of school or work, or have experienced trauma. Through four distinct service areas, YEP provides mentoring (YEP Mentors), adult education and high school equivalency preparation (YEP Educates), work-based learning (YEP Works), and out-of-school time enrichment programming (YEP Enriches).  YEP’s programs have been developed in response to unmet community needs and with input from young people and staff.  YEP’s core purpose is to empower young people to improve their lives and the lives of others.
